Ultrasound scanning is a test that uses the movement of sound
waves and subsequent echoes to form pictures of organs inside the
body. These pictures are transmitted thru the transducer to a computer
screen. The diagnostic nature of ultrasound technology provides valuable
information in a safe and comfortable environment.
Why would I need an ultrasound?
* abnormal bleeding
* pelvic pain
* to check for ovarian cysts
* problems associated with uterine fibroids
What to expect during the ultrasound test:
When you are scheduled for an ultrasound appointment, you can plan
to wear your normal clothes and drive yourself to the office. Our
certified Ultrasound Technologist Lori Williams will begin the exam
by putting a water based gel on your abdomen. This enables the transducer
probe to glide smoothly over your skin. When the ultrasound transducer
probe is moved over your abdomen it emits high-frequency sound waves
that enable visualization of tissues. Typically, the ultrasound
takes 15 minutes and Dr. McBride will review the results with you
following the scan.
